Doctor’s registration cancelled due to ‘lack of expertise’ (via The Irish Times)

A doctor whose professional registration has been cancelled by the High Court may in time apply to have it restored once the Medical Council is satisfied by his training and competence.

President of the High Court, Ms Justice Mary Irvine, noted the cancellation of the registration of Dr Francis Chijioke Megwa was due to a “lack of expertise”.

Dr Megwa was a senior house officer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL) four years ago. He worked there for five weeks until his employment was terminated in August 2018.

Ms Justice Irvine this week said it was not proposed that there would be any prohibition on the doctor’s right to apply for the restoration of his name on the register.

Irish woman’s legal action against singer Rihanna for alleged ‘malicious falsehoods’ in email and phone call to go ahead (via Independent.ie)

An Irish woman’s High Court action against the singer Rihanna is continuing after certain pre-trial matters were resolved on Tuesday.

Dana Kavanagh (47) is suing the US-based singer alleging “malicious falsehoods” in an email and in a phone call.

Ms Kavanagh of Woodbank Drive, Valley Park, Finglas, Dublin is suing the billionaire singer under the name “Robyn Fenty aka Rihanna”, with an address at Lafayette Street, New York.

In her action, Ms Kavanagh claims she was caused mental distress and emotional suffering because of what she says was a false and malicious email sent on July 11, 2013, about her (Kavanagh’s) partner Geoffrey Keating, who was Rihanna’s head of security in 2012 and 2013.

She is also suing over a phone call the singer allegedly made to Ms Kavanagh’s sister-in-law in relation to the same matter.

Boy (13) settles case over ‘fairly violent’ road collision for €4 million (via Irish Times)

A 13-year-old boy who the High Court heard was in “a fairly violent” road collision in Co Cork five years ago has settled his court action for €4 million.

Among Darragh O’Regan’s claims against the HSE was an allegation that his pre-existing brain cyst was perforated in the accident. A portion of his case was against the HSE, and it was claimed this perforation was allegedly missed when he went to Cork University Hospital emergency department six days after the crash.

The teenager, who lives in the Cayman Islands had been on holiday in Co Cork, where his grandparents live, when a hire car driven by his father collided with another car, with an attached caravan, parked on the hard shoulder at Ballyhea, Charleville on August 7th, 2017.
