Victims of AI-related damage to benefit from proposed changes to EU liability rules (via Irish Legal News)

Consumers injured by AI-powered devices like drones, robots and smart home systems will be able to sue for compensation more easily under proposals adopted by the European Commission.

The European Commission this week set out plans for a revised Product Liability Directive and a new AI Liability Directive, which it says will together adapt liability rules to the digital age, circular economy and the impact of global value chains.

Researchers find legal border ‘in the mind’ as significant as that on the ground

Differences between the legal systems North and South pose significant challenges for Irish unification, according to a cross-Border research project. Noting there is “remarkably little” cross-reference between lawyers, legislators, policymakers, academics and judges in both jurisdictions, the report of the North South Legal Mapping Project observed: “The legal border in the mind is as significant as the legal border on the ground.”

It urged more coming together of judges, lawyers, academics and people from all sectors of society North and South with a view to broadening knowledge and greater mutual understanding.
