Concert held at property, court hears, and protesters face being jailed in Mountjoy Prison for contempt of court if they fail to comply

A judge has directed that all persons in breach of an injunction requiring them to vacate a Dublin building being used to house the homeless be arrested and brought before the High Court by the gardaí to answer their failure to comply with that order.

The order was made in respect of persons linked to a group calling itself the Revolutionary Housing League (RHL) which has allegedly illegally occupied Parkgate House in Dublin 8.

Enoch Burke has failed in a bid to be set free from prison after a judge refused to grant him an injunction restraining his school from continuing his paid suspension from work.

The secondary school teacher was returned to Mountjoy Prison this evening after orders he sought were refused by Ms Justice Eileen Roberts.

The judge said Mr Burke had failed to reach necessary threshold of convincing her he had a strong chance of succeeding at a full hearing the dispute between him and his employers, Wilson’s Hospital School in Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath.

Coroner returns verdict of medical misadventure as University Hospital Limerick issues apology to family of Susan Doherty

A young mother bled to death following a “systems failure” in her care while she was an inpatient at University Hospital Limerick, an inquest into her death has heard.

The UL Hospitals Group issued an unreserved apology to the family of Susan Doherty (47), who died at the hospital on July 4th, 2020, eight days after she presented there with a low white blood cell count, sore throat and high temperature.

Doctors requested an “urgent” scan of Ms Doherty’s abdomen and pelvis after she complained of severe pain in her chest, but this was not followed up on, the inquest on Monday heard, and she died after suffering a bleed to her spleen.

Conor Halpin, senior counsel, acting on behalf of the UL Hospitals Group, expressed his “deepest sympathies to Susan’s family” and read out a letter of unreserved apology which was signed by Noreen Spillane, chief operations officer, UL Hospitals Group.
