A High Court judge has directed gardaí to arrest and bring to court next week a 75-year-old man who has ignored orders directing him to facilitate an inspection of his charitable organisation home.

Earlier this week the court had heard of the serious concerns of a housing aid group for the safety and welfare of some of its elderly tenants because of a build-up of rubbish, food waste and a potential rodent infestation in one of its apartments.

Suspended solicitor is arrested in probe into alleged €4m theft (via Independent.ie)

Man (54) questioned by garda fraud squad in relation to 40 client complaints

A 54-year-old solicitor has been arrested as part of an investigation into the theft of more than €4m from his clients.

The arrest of the west Dublin-based lawyer happened this week following a lengthy investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB).

Fraud squad detectives have been investigating the case for several years after it was referred to gardaí by the Law Society, which received 40 separate complaints in relation to the man’s alleged activities involving the misappropriation of funds.

The solicitor is suspected of stealing money from clients who had lodged it with him in relation to mortgages, land transactions and estate matters.

It is alleged that just over €4m was stolen from 40 people. The Law Society has so far refunded €1.6m to the alleged victims.

Dublin postman accused of stealing TV, scooter and runners in packages valued at €776 (via Independent.ie)

A postman stole packages that he was trusted to deliver, it has been alleged.

Dean O’Reilly (50) appeared in court accused of taking a TV, scooter and runners in three incidents.

The case against him was adjourned at Blanchardstown District Court for the accused to decide on a plea.

Mr O’Reilly, of Castlemoyne, Balgriffin, Dublin 13, is charged with theft.

The offences are alleged to have happened at An Post Delivery Services, Merrywell Industrial Estate, Ballymount Road Lower, on November 11, 17 and 30, 2020.
