Legal history made as more women than men granted top lawyer titles (via Independent.ie)

For the first time in Irish legal history more female lawyers than male have been added to the ranks of senior counsel.

Patents are granted by the Government on the advice of an advisory committee which includes the presidents of the superior courts and the Attorney General.

The committee does not distinguish between applicants’ genders when making recommendations.

However, senior counsel lists have historically been dominated by male lawyers, in part due to a higher number of applications from men.

Bill enabling barristers and solicitors to provide joint legal services looms (via Irish Legal News)

A bill to allow barristers and solicitors to jointly provide legal services will soon be published, Justice Minister Helen McEntee has said.

The general scheme for the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2021 was first published in June 2021. Ms McEntee made the comments at a gathering of Irish and international lawyers in Dublin intended to showcase the State as a hub for dealing with international legal disputes.
